La Estancia has to be the worst place I have ever lived. I'll gladly list all of the reasons. 1. The neighbors. I have a child and we lived on the top floor. I tried to keep her as quiet as possible, but my downstairs neighbors sent up their teenage son to tell us we were being too loud. A number of times they would slam on the wall in the middle of the night when we weren't even awake! Very unfriendly, rude people. Not to mention the ghetto kids running around, being extremely loud at night making out and having sex in the pool. Our next door neighbor moved out a week before us, because her neighbors were very loud. 2. La Estancia had our car towed because our registration had run out. We had no idea that it had expired, because we usually recieve a notice first. Anyway, we go downstairs to go somewhere and our car was gone! We thought it had been stolen! It cost us over $200 to get it back and we had to wait until the next day. My husband missed work because of this and things were stolen out of our car. :( 3. Our electric bill was very high. Unusually high. Well over $300 dollars in the summer! I couldn't believe it. For a small apartment, we were paying way more than my friends who own homes. I kept all my lights off during during the day, changed the filter monthly and only did laundry at night and it still didn't help. 4. There was always mold in the shower. It was disgusting. I used bleach on it weekly to keep it under control, but it would always come back. ALL over the corners of the shower. 5. The water was being shut off constantly. Sometimes they would shut it off without notice. I think there was only one time we were actually notified that the water was being shut off. 6. There were dogs ALWAYS barking. Very irritating. Some people let their dogs out on their patios and they'll bark and everyone walking by. Not just sometimes but every day! 7. Worst of all, my daughter spilled a drink on her floor in her bedroom before we left. I have a carpet cleaner and was able to get most of it out. I didn't have enough time to rent a good steam cleaner before I left, so La Estancia informed us that they would be charging us around $300 and would not be giving us our $150 pet deposit back! They said they wouldn't just replace the carpet in her room, so they would be charging us to replace the entire carpet in the whole apartment! UNBELIEVABLE! I had rented a steam cleaner months ago and cleaned the whole floor, so I did try to keep it looking nice. However, it's hard when you have a child who likes to drop drinks and food all over the floor. We are not messy people, so we are very disappointed and feel this is very unfair. A steam cleaner could have EASILY gotten that stain completely out. I just had a baby and I am very busy, but I regret not making more time and renting a steam cleaner. 7. The kitchen counters are only painted and stain extremely easy, so there were stains on it. They threated to charge us for that as well when my husband complained about being charge so much for the carpet. It's pretty impossible to keep a painted counter top from staining. I tried using Ajax to get the stains out, but it didn't work very well. Unless you're planning on not using an apartment for what it was intended for (LIVING), save yourself the trouble and money. If you are unable to keep it spotless and stain free, they will charge you. DON'T MOVE HERE! Buy a home if you can. We just bought a home and our mortgage is only $100 more than what I was paying here for a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom house. I rented from spring '08 through spring 10. ...
