Carolina Square is by far the worst apartment complex that I have lived in, ever. EVERYTHING is falling apart, and the maintenance men are rude and maintenance requests must be made multiple times before one can expect any kind of service. The cement
walls grow black mold on them that has to be cleaned everyday to keep it from taking over, the insulation is TERRIBLE, and you literally hear anybody walking by your window as if they were talking right into your ear. The air conditioners and all the other appliances are all extremely old and they don't work well or efficiently- my electric bill for my 1bed/1bath apartment is sometimes over $200 a month!!! The cabinetry is falling apart (with the exception of a few of the first floor units that were recently redone so they could be shown, which in my opinion is blatantly misleading), and the pool is always filled with algae, rendering it unswimmable. The "fitness center" is a dingy hole that used to be a storage closet, and the one lonely treadmill in there doesn't even work!! The "laundry facility" is expensive and only takes quarters (which becomes a real hassle and makes it impossible to do laundry on a regular basis) and at least of the dryers are out of order on a regular basis. Also, get very comfortable talking to bums because you will be solicited by them almost every time you walk outside. Carolina Square is not worth the $525 a month by any stretch of the imagination, and quite frankly it should be torn down and rebuilt from scratch.
I rented from spring '08 through summer 10.

This place is run by slumlords who will undoubtedly take most of your security deposit for little things. The apartments themselves are bad with utility bills that exceed $100 and bums asking you for money but it is the management company Coastal
Property Services that are the real villains. If you get caught living there without reading these reviews first, make sure that you demand that they do the final expection walk-through with you present and have them tell you what they find. Also, they try to charge everyone $85 for general cleaning fees which only costs them $65, who know s what they do with the rest. They also require you steam clean the apartment when you move out and charge you $4.50 to send the remains of your security deposit check to you(what is left of it). Basically, they try to pass the cost of regular cleaning of the apartment on to you so they can maximize their profit. This is the sign of true slumlords. Please don't move in here or you will be swindled out of money like I was with nothing to do about it.

RUN!!! DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. IT WAS AWFUL! NOISEY ALL THE TIME! YOUR CAR WILL BE TOWED AND BROKEN INTO, ELECTRIC BILLS ARE HORRIBLE AND THE BEDROOM STAYS HOT. YOU WON'T GET BACK YOUR DEPOSIT SO FORGET EVEN CLEANING IF YOU ARE ALREADY IN
THERE...I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU. IT WAS WORTH PAYING TO GET OUT OF THAT SITUATION. THE WORD "SLUM" BEST DESCRIBES THIS PLACE. SHOULD BE BULLDOZED SO THEY STOP RIPPING OFF COLLEGE STUDENTS.

If youβre looking for some peace and quiet, these apartments are not the place to live. Neighbors are loud and obnoxious. You can hear everything through the walls. I mean EVERYTHING! Itβs overwhelming. The neighbor upstairs is as ghetto as can be, he
plays his rap music so loud every day of the week, literally, at all hours. Management has yet to help resolve this dilemma, but instead advised me to call the police on the boy, which would eventually lead to an arrest is what Iβve been told. I felt as though they lacked the will power to resolve the situation themselves. To top it off it seems as though they deliberately walk like they weigh 500 lbs. The loser upstairs smokes as well, and I inhale every bit of it because it seeps through the air vents, its probably crack for all I know. When I first moved in the apartment stunk like a dead animal moved in weeks before I arrived. After calling continuously and pleading for someone to assist this issue, they finally got him in the second or third day of complaining. I can go on and on with how terrible its been here. Itβs the worst living experience Iβve ever encountered here. I donβt recommend it, if you see Carolina Sq. run the other direction!
