The motto of University Square Apartments is "Everything you need is right here." It was fortunate for me, because thanks to tow companies allowed in by the apartment complex management, I had my 100% legally parked motorcycle towed multiple times.
The first time it happened I was assured by the management that it was all an unfortunate misunderstanding and it would never happen again. Then it happened again. They knew full well to whom the motorcycle belonged because both times I found my cover torn off and casually thrown down on my doorstep.
I would like to reiterate that it is 100% legal to park a motorcycle when not in use. The DMV confirmed this for me later. I would like you to take a moment and consider the level of frivolity that must be involved in the decision to have a vehicle towed when a government-run bureaucracy could not find reason to charge either a tax or a fee in the same situation.
In all fairness you may not be struggling to pay living expenses and tuition, so having to fork over several hundred dollars a pop to have your own vehicle returned to you may not be as much of an aggravation.
Also during one of my later years of residency, I had my water heater burst open, thereby flooding my apartment. No one responded for hours when I called the emergency maintenance number, and I had to find a way to shut off the water myself. This was slightly less annoying than the previous problem.
I rented from fall '01 through summer '07.
