Over a 2.5 year period, more than 125 contacts were made to ameliorate issues that were related to the property (utility, structure, and relatives of the landlord who stayed on the premises). Despite the word of the landlord, little was ever taken care
of within a prompt period. Many of the issues the landlord tried to side-step, creating problems for the tenants to live/deal with. Local code authorities expressed severe frustration as landlord failed to comply with several requirements and eventually jeopardized the viability of the property to be considered more than a single-family home (in fact, I was asked to testify that no local management had been available over the duration of my residence). Landlord tries to wheel-and-deal, using bully-like tactics with short, unreasonable time-lines. The upper portion of the property is used by the landlord and family for select events. When noise from the upstairs was unreasonably loud and persistent due to relatives having parties extending for several hours into the morning and young children being allowed to jump and stomp unchecked, multiple requests for intervention were unfulfilled and met with hostility. Landlord does not express any sincere knowledge or acknowledgment of tenant rights and appears to have limited, if any, understanding of local landlord-tenant regulations. Landlord persistently allows family to engage in activities that disrupt the tenant's domicile and expresses a sense of entitlement that the landlord's family and friends should be able to "relax without other concerns". When a water main burst and caused flooding, actions was slow to be taken. Extensive repairs, displacement and loss or destruction of personal property resulted from poor selection of repair contractors. This was exacerbated by the remote location of the landlord and lack of proper, local management. For over 2 months 2 residents were inconvenienced with constant relocation of personal property and no permanent bedrooms. Landlord was reluctant to appeal to reason in terms of proper compensation.
I rented from spring '08 through spring 11.
