This place wows you from the outside, it has a golf course, tanning beds, a fantastic fitness center, spa, sauna, pool that overlooks a great view of Denton, and a seemingly wonderful and accommodating staff. Now start the real story, they are cheaply made housing that at the very most offer a low electricity bill, only two units are allowed to have pets so if you aren't a new resident don't even try to get the staff to help you get into one. Once you sign the lease it's as if you have signed away their need to be courteous to you. They make everything as difficult and stressful as it can be, they will not allow any guests in the pool or gym areas and you have to constantly have your resident ID with you which they check and then go and pull your lease to make sure you aren't lying, which is frustrating and demeaning. It's difficult to get a golf reservation and not as simple as they make it sound to do anything they try to wow you with. I had tons of problems with insects, mostly crickets which I was repulsed by. There aren't enough parking spaces to park next to your own house, but I've found that very common in Denton housing. The hours of the pool and fitness center are not ideal, I'm not sure if anyone that has work or school during the day ever gets to use it. They force you to do auto-draft of your monthly rent, otherwise you have to pay 6 months at a time, so in other words you have to give them your bank acct number along with consent for them to draft out of it....one month they double drafted my acct and sent me into over-draft and made tons of things bounce and never did anything to make up for my losses. I was very dissatisfied here and I can't believe any business can survive with practices like theirs! I would not recommend it to anyone. I rented from fall '06 through fall '07. ...

The new internet service is nowhere near as fast as advertised. The brochure from Primecast said that the Internet speed was supposed to be 10 mgps (or 10,000 kbps) for uploads and 2 mgps for downloads. My average download speed is more like 5000 kbps and my average upload speed is about 2500 kbps. Sure it's faster than the old service from Lindsey Communications, but their service was almost as slow as a dial-up connection. Another problem that I've had with Primecast is that the service is really unreliable and it cuts out all of the time. I've only had my cable and internet subscription for about a month now and I've lost my internet connection several times. Usually it comes back within a few minutes, but there have been three times where it's been out for several hours. Once, it was out for almost a whole day. I have called Primecast's customer service line repeatedly, but all they can do is tell me that their people were working on it and that someone will be out to fix the problem as soon as the next technician is available. I've had some issues with the cable too (for example, the TV freezes on certain channels for several minutes and then you end up missing a big chunk out of whatever show you were trying to watch). The worst part is that Primecast is the only service provider that residents are allowed to use at this apartment complex. If we could choose our own provider, we could get much faster and much more consistent service for a better price. I know this from experience because I've rented at other apartments in Denton. ...

Timber Links stinks - literally! The Denton Municipal Landfill is right next door and when the wind blows just right, the stench is overpowering. The apartments look nice on the outside, but the interiors are made from the cheapest materials possible. You can hear the wind whistling in all of the cracks because the buildings are so poorly constructed. Some of the amenities are nice, but the Clubhouse's hours are inconvenient (especially since the new management company, the Lynd Company, has taken over) for most people. This is especially true if you work a normal 9-to-5 job. Also, even if you try to visit the Clubhouse during their regularly-scheduled business hours, the staff has a bad habit of leaving early. You'll find that the doors are locked and everyone has already gone home for the day. Several other reviewers have already mentioned the billing problems (the $45 convenience fee, the fact that the water bills have gone up, the fact that renters are no longer able to golf for free etc.) and the other issues here. Living here is more trouble than it's worth and I definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. Move here at your own risk - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! ...

They have red bugs, green bugs, brown bugs and black bugs too - this place is a veritable United Nations of insect life. It's perfect if you've always dreamed of having your own special insectapalooza filled with a who's who of charming vermin in all shapes, sizes and colors. Americans spend millions of dollars per year to visit museums and zoos that feature these fascinating creepy crawlies - if you take up residence here, then you can have a whole patio full of wee beasties to gawk at for hours on end! Just think about how wonderful it will be! You will never be lonely - the day you move in, your apartment will come furnished with scads of 6 and 8-legged freewheeling, freeloading roommates who just can't wait to make your acquaintance (don't expect them to help you with the rent though...). As an added service, if you have trouble deciding how to spend your own money, then the good people at the Lynd Company will be more than happy to decide how to spend it for you through a never-ending parade of surprise fees and mysterious charges. Why, every day will be an exciting new adventure and you'll never know what kind of random bill they'll be scotch-taping on your door next! If this all sounds like a blast to you, then by all means, stop by the leasing office today and someone (assuming that they're not on break and that they aren't busily ignoring the current tenants...) will be simply elated to show you around! ...

In response to what a previous poster said, the issue isn't that we have to pay the water bill or the cable bill - the issue is that the Lynd Company has been completely dishonest about how much everything would cost. They originally said that basic cable was supposed to be free and then after everyone had signed up for service, they started charging $45 per month. With 480 units in this apartment complex, that's an additional $21,600 that we have to pay on top of our rent. Also, we used to only pay for the water that we actually used. Now that the Lynd Company has taken over, the water bill is split between everyone in the apartment complex and I heard that they're making us pay to water the golf course next door too. When they switched the payment system, they said that our bills wouldn't go up but they did – my monthly water bill has more than doubled. The Lynd Company is just plain greedy and I don't believe anything that their people say anymore. ...

The apartments look nice from the outside, but on the inside, they are cheaply made. For example, the cabinets are made from the same kind of low-end wood laminate that you'd expect to see in a trailer park. The paint on the walls is also very low quality. The carpet is a pale beige or ivory color and we constantly have to shampoo it or else it shows every little spot. The walls are very thin, so expect to hear EVERYTHING that your neighbor does (especially if you live in a downstairs apartment). One of the things that had initially appealed to me about living at Timber Links is that the apartment complex is located next to a golf course. When I first started living here, the residents could play for free. Since Lynd Co. has taken over, they've started charging the residents here to play on our own golf course. There have been several other unexpected fees as well. After I had first moved in, my water bill was between $10-$20 per month. Now, the water bill is split between everybody in the apartment complex and my bill has gone up to over $35 per month. I believe that one of the reasons for this is because Lynd Co. wastes so much water. Some of the sprinkler heads look like they're broken but they continue to water with them anyway. More water ends up in the parking lot than ends up on the grass but the Lynd Co. people don't care because they aren't paying the bills we are. I think that they are also making the residents pay to water the golf course now too (which is really unfair if you think about it because we can no longer use the golf course for free like we could with the previous management company). In the past month, they've started charging everyone a monthly $45 'convenience fee' for having cable. We are already paying the cable company (Primecast) for service, so I don't understand how Lynd can justify double-billing everyone like this. There has also been talk of them charging $15 per vehicle per month just to park in our own parking lot. Understandably, there are quite a few residents here who are upset with Lynd right now because they keep dumping all of these costs on us and then they expect us to just happily pay for everything, no questions asked. Complaining to the office staff does absolutely no good - most of them have no idea what's going on or if they do have an answer for you, they'll all tell you something different. I haven't been able to get any answers from Lynd's regional manager either. Because of all of these billing issues and because of several other problems that I've had with this new this management company, I will not be renewing my lease. I can't wait to get as far away from these people as possible. I rented from fall '07 through fall '08. ...

I wouldn't recommend them at all. If you do a Google search, you will notice complaints from their tenants, because they were promised free cable, and now they are making them pay an extra $45 a month for cable. This is even for people who just signed a lease stating that the cable would be included for free. Outrageous. So, if you want to live with the fear that your rent will be increased without good reason, then go ahead and live here. If you're like most normal people and sign a 12-month lease with someone and expect them to only raise the rent at the END of your contract, then do not rent with the Timberlinks. Also, in addition to the $45 cable increase, they are really jacking up the price of their rent upon renewal. If you want to renew your lease, expect to pay an extra $150 at the least. They're 1-bedrooms are going for $760 and they're 2-bedrooms are going for $1,010, and these are just the smaller models. Trust me when I tell you that it's not worth it. And, you still have to pay your water, electric, and internet bills. ...
