The property manager will act nice enough during the initial tour and lease signing, but she lacks compassion, consideration, or regard for the tenants. I had to spend out of my own pocket $25 just to obtain the mailbox key from the post office and she
refused to reimburse me when I asked. Then, when I moved out, she demanded return of the mailbox keys I had paid out of pocket for. She further refused to reimburse me the $25.
BE WARY OF YOUR DEPOSIT. You won't get the full amount back, that's for sure. I spoke with other tenants and they said the same. The landlord never returns full deposit, no matter how clean you leave it. I scrubbed and cleaned and vacuumed and it looked like new; she still complained and deducted from the deposit.
Walls are thin; winter electricity is THROUGH THE ROOF because of faulty heaters that no one will fix. Air conditioners are in TERRIBLE condition; do not function. Often water does not run at full blast, but trickles. Maintenance tried to fix, but could not fix it.
Landlord is MERCILESS when it comes to money. Do not try to negotiate if it involves money. NO COMPASSION. You will be expected to pay full value, full whatever, all late fees, all charges, no matter what. NO EXCEPTION. You will never be reimbursed for anything you spend out of pocket, so don't bother.
Do not rent here. Keep this as the last resort.
The fact that most of the apartments are ALWAYS empty is a sign of how bad they are. When you live here, you will notice there is always somebody moving out and the signs for "AVAILABLE APARTMENTS" is ALWAYS out front because there is ALWAYS empty apartments. They cannot fill capacity because it is THAT HORRID.
I had a horrible 6 month experience. As soon as the lease was up, I didn't have any thought at all about renewing. I moved out immediately, no turning back. HATED this place. Rent was too expensive; electricity bill also too expensive due to lack of insulation on walls and broken heaters. Air conditioner made more noise than construction machines AND wasn't effective!
Also, there's racial preferences. The landlord prefers whites and Asians. If you're Latino or Black, the landlord will rent to you only if you are the only choice she has. If it is between you and a white person, she'll pick the white person. It's so obvious.
I rented from summer '07 through spring '08.
