As I was eagerly excited to get off campus and move into my own space, Campus Crossing at Brightside was my choice of residence for this. While everything seemed perfect, from the amenities of the complex to the suprisingly low cost of rent, there were few things that concerned me once I already committed to the lease. For one, the staff was very unprofessional and not knowledgeable at all when it came to giving the residence the correct information before committing to a lease. There are a lot of employees that are in college just as we are and they only look at their positions as a money making job. They could care less about giving you the wrong information and having you look stupid when the right information is finally revealed. I took a trip from my hometown of Memphis, TN to meet with someone of the staff to discuss the information given via email further and face to face, along with a tour of the apartments. I was told a rate that is not the rate I currently am paying and the hidden fees were not discussed at all during this consultation. The literal purpose of this trip was to get more information in person to make sure I knew what I was committing too, in which that purpose was defeated. Fast-forwarding, first month's rent was due and upon logging into the resident portal to pay that fee, my jaw dropped. The amount was not what I was told and when I called to dispute this, the person I had the most contact with over this time period told me verbatim " It wasn't my job to tell you about the subleasing fee added to your rent rate, that's the responsibility of the person you're subleasing from." I couldn't believe my ears but it opened my mind to something that I had never experienced before being this is my first apartment, which is, regardless of their title and employment with this residence property ALWAYS SPEAK TO AN ACTUAL ADULT of high authority because those that are college students as well are only there for the money. While they're telling you whatever sounds appeasing to the one applying for residence to get their day over with, at the end you'll be the one looking silly because nothing can be done after the lease is signed. Meanwhile those college students employed will be receiving a 50% discount and could care less if your rate they lied about is overbearing for your circumstances once you find out the actual cost. ...
