ALERT!!! AMBERLEIGH TOWING!!! AMBERLEIGH TOWING!!! AMBERLEIGH TOWING!!! PARKING FIASCO TARGETING GUESTS!!!!!!!!!! ANYONE WHO DATES OR HAS FREQUENT VISITORS SHOULD READ THIS AND TAKE HEED!!!!!!!!! THIS IS NOT AN EASYGOING PLACE TO MOVE. I SAY THAT, BECAUSE YOUR FREQUENT GUESTS ARE HIGHLY LIKELY TO END UP PAYING EXORBITANT TOWING FEES! There is extremely limited GUEST parking at Amberleigh. Anyone saying that parking for guests is ample is not telling the truth and/or is an idiot; likely both. At least 95 percent of the spaces are not marked on the parking surface or by signage. If a visitor parks in an unmarked space, the vast majority of spaces, or in a space painted RESERVED without WRITTEN PERMISSION from management, in the form of a PASS, the guest's vehicle will be TOWED. You didn't know that an unmarked space means YOU WILL BE TOWED did you? Most visitors don't. RESERVED spaces are costly and are provided only to residents. The rest of the available parking spaces at Amberleigh, which are extremely limited in number, are imprinted with the term GUEST on the parking surface. Walks of up to 4 blocks to find a GUEST space are common. GUEST is a misnomer. Visitors are apparently not welcome. GUEST parking is for temporary guests, THIS MEANS FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY. Residents who desire to extend guest parking for more than one night must get a pass before 6:00 PM Monday-Friday or before 5 PM Saturday and Sunday. This is extremely inconvenient arrangement for people that work. It is impossible for many, especially those who make or change plans during the evening hours. What this means people, is that visitors without a pass, who park in a GUEST spot at night, leave during the day, and then come back the next night, ARE TOWED if they park ANYWHERE on Amberleigh property the second night. Yes….ANYWHERE!!!! That includes other GUEST parking spaces. Photos are taken of cars and license plates nightly, primarily in GUEST parking areas and ostensibly, of any car that is TOWED. This is done for documentation purposes. Amberleigh management and the towing company must gleefully proclaim that they will get you sooner or later if you visit people that live there, or at least that's in my rear view mirror. TOWING is $125.00. An afterhour’s fee of $25 is also added for a TOTAL of $150.00 in TOWING/After Hours charges. They tow principally at night, ostensibly, so as not to be seen. The TOWING Company, as of this writing Dominion Towing, only accepts CASH! I highly recommend avoiding this debacle. Ask ANYONE who lives at Amberleigh. All of them know someone who has been TOWED. Your friends are likely to be TOWED if you move there. There are other places with policies that are more visitor friendly. Amberleigh is anything but! ...

I would say they nickel and dime you for every damn thing, but it's more like $50 and $100. First, they want to charge $1890 a month rent for a low quality garden apt. with cheap appliances and an old, patched together appearance. If the apartment you will be renting is not available for viewing before signing the lease, it's only because it looks NOTHING like the model they showed you. They advertise as a "luxury apartment" cherry cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances. What you actually get is cheap cabinets with a peeling finish, cheap appliances and cheap countertops. Lovely! The refrigerator/freezer smelled so bad we couldn't use it. We had to throw out everything we brought in on moving day, even unopened packaged items because it all absorbed the putrid odor. Luckily, they were able to replace it with a used, scratched up model that only smelled a little bit. That's very convenient if you have a lot of money to throw away on unusable groceries. You may have the experience of coming home to find that raw sewage from upstairs apartments has flooded the kitchen. You will only have to wait 4-5 hours for maintenance to come and stop the crap from flooding the kitchen, and you will not have time to sleep that night because you had to clean the disgusting mess. If upon moving in you smell gas, don't worry, it's only because the stove isn't hooked up properly. Also you get hundreds, if not thousands of very luxurious cockroaches and ants. Your stove's digital display is equipped with live cockroaches crawling inside. Very nice, like a goldfish bowl! The beautiful vinyl tile kitchen floor has a lot of lovely cruddy grime between every joint that does not come off, even with vigorous scrubbing. The floors are so creaky that you can hear EVERYTHING above you at all hours of the day and night, it's so wonderful to hear every step your upstairs neighbor takes, plus as an extra added bonus, you know when and how often these neighbors are having sex, or fighting because you hear it all! Thrilling! If you are not a very heavy sleeper, you will have the unparalleled experience of missing hours of unneeded sleep every night. There are luxury fluorescent ceiling lights in the bedrooms, kitchen and dining room. If you are as lucky as we were, you will have cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, bathroom sink will be very scratched up and show many years of use, faucet set will leak, and the clear plastic towel bar in the shower will have dead cockroaches inside that you can see every day when you bathe. Very relaxing! It may only take them 3 visits to fix a toilet that runs. Very efficient! You don't even have to open the master bedroom door to see inside from the hallway, because the door is hung so crookedly, it leaves a wide crack, great for lack of privacy. Your upstairs neighbors will throw cigarette butts off the balcony onto your patio night and day, so take care that you or your children do not get burned. I could go on and on about the condition of these luxury apartments, but I'm sure you get the picture. Parking: They will tell you that there is "plenty of parking" but if you arrive home after 6pm, you will hunt for an empty space and end up with a 5-10 minute walk to your door. All this will be alleviated with an extra fee of $60 per month for a reserved space. Just like the city!! If you can't find a space and have to park in a space marked "Guest", you will be towed even though you have a valid resident parking sticker on your rear window. When it snows, hopefully you will have a sturdy shovel and plenty of time to dig out your car after they push all the snow off the travel way and pile it against your car. Guest spaces and unmarked "free" spaces will not be plowed, so parking your car will be even more challenging until the snow melts. Utilities: you will receive a bill for gas, electric, and a "utility charge" which you may assume is for water and sewer, plus an extra added service charge for the privilege of receiving a bill. The water that flows into your home must be of very special quality because you are charged twice as much than anyplace else where you have your own water meter. We went from paying about $28 per month with 3 people, to over $40 per month for 2 people. Do the math! Even if you do very little cooking with your gas stove, you will pay $60-$70 month for gas. Even if you keep your thermostat low in winter and high in summer, you will pay almost as much as you did when you lived in a place 2-1/2 times larger! Since the apartments don't have individual meters for utilities, you will save time reviewing the accuracy of your utility bills, and just pay whatever they decide to charge you. So let's review: for an old patched together garden apartment, $1890; utilities in summer and winter, $200; parking $60. This adds up to $2150 per month for a luxuriously crappy apartment. Oh almost forgot! They will pay you $250 if you refer someone who signs a lease, so if you have a lot of enemies or people you need revenge on, you will really be rolling in the dough if they rent here too! I rented from winter 10 through spring 11. ...
