I doubt any resident would honestly write that review. The problem is, the management doesn't want you to know the nightmare they will cause in your life. I am posting this review on apartment review sites because I believe future renters must be informed of the problems here. I write this review after having to deal with management here over the past three years. They all look down their noses at you, will never be professional, and believe that because you are a renter, they can scoff at you whenever they like. They refuse to allow you to sign a yearly lease after your first lease runs up, insisting on month to month so they can keep raising your rent. They lose records constantly. The entire system is absurd. The pool is open strictly from memorial day to labor day, regardless of weather. Oh, and you must have a pool pass, which you can only get during the day from 9-5, so good luck for those that work. They will tow your friends cars unless you go through the hassle of getting a temporary pass in a garage and make your friends run back and forth between the office to borrow and return a garage card. Oh, and it takes three keys for me to get in and out of the garage - even a key to get OUT of the garage (talk about a fire hazard). When the water is shut off (which it is pretty much every month), they provide little notice. They also enjoy hiring groundskeepers to work with noisy machines outside your window at 7:00 AM on Saturdays, in case you aren't tired enough from a long work week. The laundry machines take your money without starting, but they can't do anything about it because they contract out. The numbers you can call are unresponsive. The air conditioning controls are a joke - either on or off. And you will be so hot in the month of May, it's like living in a third world country. The condition of the elevators and hallways are grim. Dark, nasty carpet that looks like it has had dirt ground in for the past 10 years. If you're lucky, you'll get an overpowering whif of air freshener they pour into the ground in the mornings to greet you on your way to work. No parking if you are a student and come back late or work odd hours. You have to either park on the street or pay $40/month extra for a lot space. Oh, and when the building power shuts off, they do not have emergency lights in the dark stairwells, so make sure you have a working flashlight. Maintanence is lazy and dirty. They have literally tracked dirt into my apartment on several occassions. They replaced a broken entryway fixture with one half the size and did not bother to paint around the spot where the old fixture was, leaving me to live with that eyesore until I leave the apartment. The air conditioner leaked and flooded onto my carpet, which they fixed but then I had to call them back to actually staple the carpet back down. They paint over their tubs with a paint that chips, so forget taking baths. The apartments do not seem safe, with frequent police visits and side doors that often have broken locks. Besides, almost anyone can get in just through the front door. DO NOT MOVE HERE, it's not worth it. With the rent increases, you're really not going to be much better off than if you were a resident in one of Shirlington House's nicer neighbors. I rented from fall '05 through fall '08. ...
