The first problem I encountered was that there was paint overspray all over my light fixtures and external window. The paintjob is horrible. The stairs were filthy, and of course the front office did nothing to help, so I had to go out there and scrub it myself. I had to rewire ALL the light-switches, as they were not functioning properly at switching the proper outlets. The toilet-paper roll holder was GLUED to the wall, because the meintenance man was too lazy to screw it in. Of course, it has ripped off halfway already. The thermostat is inaccurate, so I have to set it on 80 to be comfortable. As time passed, more and more thugs were allowed to move in, and the place is going down the drain. Thugs seem to be taking over the area and are seen quite often loitering and walking around outside, to the point where my wife doesn't feel safe leaving the apartment anymore, and is forced to stay locked up inside all day while I am working. I had to resort to buying and installing two hotel-style latches to reinforce the weak excuse for a deadbolt. I installed two window locks because the window had none. The apartment building next to mine has been burned and has no roof. All the residents were vacated. No one has done anything about it, but put an ugly blue tarp over it, a fence around it, and plywood on the openings. The fence denied us a dry place to walk, so we had to resort to walking in the mud everyting we went out. The folks on the lower floor constantly use the area underneath the stairs as their personal storage area, so there is always unsightly junk all over the ground at the bottom of the stairs. The laundry room is pathetic, with equipment that works only half the time. There is an insect problem growing, since the apartment next to us burned in a fire. There have been several break-ins, thefts and my own center-caps were stolen off my wheels of my truck three days ago. The sheriff is constantly being called out here. The water faucet outside the building had a major valve problem, and no one would ever repair it despite several emergency maintenance requests. The maintenance man did an inexcusible job by tying tope around the valve handle to keep it from leaking. I ended up having to buy a shutoff valve out of my own pocket. The front office personnel NEVER seem to answer the phone when we need them. They put forth the attitude that all they want is our money, and when it's time that we need them, they just don't care. The trees planted here constantly give off pollen, almost year round. So keeping any car clean here is impossible. I've counted three cars in the lot so far that have been abandoned, unsightly and have been towed. The cable boxes on the side of the building have been broken into, by those whom want to "hook themselves up". The result is a spaghetti tangle of wires hanging off the wall. The water has been turned off two times so far for maintenance, without any notice whatsoever. This resulted in me not being able to take a shower, and has costed me a day so far in missed work. Men have been repairing roofs lately, and of course, no notice went out about that as well, so sleeping during the hours of 7am-6pm was impossible with all the banging. (I often work night shift.) One positive thing: Clean carpet. That's it, only one thing. Why did I move here? I had no choice, I was in a hurry, I had nothing when I moved here with the military. Thank goodness there is a military clause in the rental agreement. I'm moving out of here as soon as I get my orders. I rented from winter '07 through spring '08. ...
