I have been living in Avana for three years. Our place flooded on Christmas day and this has still not fixed it or done anything !!! They are also still charging us full rent and the flooring and sheetrock are completely ripped out. This is a horrible place to live that doesn't help their residents at all! ...

I will first start by saying this place is amazingly beautiful, but that's it! I first moved in, in Feb of this year 2008. My first weekend was great it was quiet and you couldn't hear a thing. I truly thought that I had found a perfect place, well that all changed. There is a train track nearby where a train runs 24/7. Everyone said "Oh, you'll get used to it" but I have to say I have not. It is now November and I still wake up every night with that train. It blows the horn continuously as it travels. It's not just a beep, beep. Whoever it is lays on the horn no matter what time of day. 1, 2, 3, 4 in the morning. I live in the middle of the complex and sometimes I think it is about to come through the walls. I can only imagine what the other people think. I am not a light sleeper either. It usually takes a shove to wake me up. Another thing is that this place has a pest problem. I had to use pest control repeatedly. When being totally fed up with the problem I called the office to complain and got a hold of a man who I think was from district because the only people in the office were all girls. I was told that it was the season for bugs. Then was asked if I had taken any measures to spray myself. Excuse me but that is why I pay rent every month, the pest control is included in that, read the contract! Besides that when the pest man came he would leave a little note saying he had been there and to not use anything other spray as it might interfere with what he has used. Another issue is animal waste. I love animals! I have pets of my own. There are rules for having pets in this facility but they are not enforced and not followed. People do not pick up after there animals. I’ve complained but nothing has come of it. I have had two 6-month leases at this apartment complex. The rent is a little high but since it was 3 miles from my work and with high gas prices I decided that it would all even out. When my 1st lease expired my rent went up only $10.00 for the next 6-months. I decided that an extra $10 wasn’t bad; prices can’t stay the same forever. It has now come time to renew again, but this time is a different story. They would now like me to pay $250 more a month for a 6-month lease making rent $1160 and $200 more a month for a 14-month lease making rent $1110. Most of the girls in the office are new and I explained that I only had to pay $10 more a month last time. I was told that the other girls weren’t doing there job right and I got lucky. They explained it as inflation and that the prices were market prices and a very good deal. I don’t know if these girls have been reading the papers or watching the news but the economy sucks right now and no one in their right mind is going to say okay to this. I make very good money being in the health field and even these prices are ridiculous for me. I would have a cheaper house payment at this rate, but I just moved to this town and still I am not sure of where to buy or if even to buy in this economy. I rented from winter '08 through fall '08. ...
