I'm not sure if I really qualify as a renter anymore but I felt it was important to say something here. My roommates and I were going to lease an apartment through this company and had the worst experience. About a week prior to our move-in date, the woman who runs this company told us we would have to push back the move-in date a day or two. This was fine, we could make it work. Two days before the move-in date, she told us she would need an additional SIX TO EIGHT weeks before our aparment was ready! As the move-in date was already late, this put us in a horrifying position of not having anywhere to live a day or two before school began. Then, she offered us one of her other properties. We went and saw it and it was not amazing and was too small for the number of tenants we had (there wasn't enough room for 4 beds anywhere, and we had 4 renters) but we thought we could make it work if she gave us a discount. Nope, no discount for the wrong, too-small apartment. When we would ask any questions she would get terribly defensive as if she wasn't the one who broke the contract. We visited the student law services here at umich regarding this situation, and upon hearing "Tree City Properties" the lawyer immediately said "oh, we've heard that name a lot." AKA, this is not the first time this lady has breached her contract with people. Worst of all, our apartment was not ready because of maintenace she had to do, however, the apartment hadn't been rented out the whole year prior, meaning she had over a year to complete it and she still utterly screwed us over. Please save yourself a lot of time and stress and do not rent with this company. I rented from fall 2017 through fall 2017. ...

Honestly the worst person I ever had to deal with in my life in any capacity. I had to sue her for $3,000 to get the security deposit back which she is not shy to tell you is a frequent experience. She nearly ran over our server to avoid being served her court paperwork and the whole process took nearly a year. She won't communicate with you and just wants all your money. She's not at all helpful and does less than the bare minimum of bad landlord. Never, I repeat never, rent from Tree City; worst mistake of my life. I rented from fall 2015 through fall 2016. ...

Do not ever rent from Tree City Properties. The landlord is impossible to communicate with, overcharges for everything, and is incredibly rude. She is unresponsive and unhelpful. Apartments are in terrible conditions, but she charges rent as if they were brand new. Save yourself the trouble and the thousands of dollars, and rent elsewhere. I rented from fall 2017 through summer 2018. ...

The only good thing about the apartment was the location. The landlord/manager is rude, evasive, antisocial, and just a pain to deal with over anything. The price is also too steep for the quality; the lease is predatory so they can nickel and dime you at every step. TLDR: do not rent from Tree City, they are basically slumlords. I rented from summer 2016 through spring 2018. ...

Absolutely the worst renting experience I have ever had. The landlord is utterly unprofessional -- she is rude whenever repairs are requested and nearly impossible to communicate with. I rented from fall 2017 through winter 2018.

To reiterate other sentiments - DO NOT RENT FROM TREE CITY. The landlord is extremely rude and completely unresponsive. The psychological stress brought about from dealing with her was absolutely not worth it I rented from fall 2017 through winter 2018.

The landlord is unprofessional and uncommunicative. The worst landlord I have ever rented from. The security deposit will get deducted for things you were never aware of, and it is impossible to communicate with the landlord because she is defensive and extremely rude. Do not rent from Tree City Properties!!!!! I rented from fall 2015 through spring 2016. ...

We all decided to get a house together for our junior and senior years. It was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend it to new students. Don't let college pass you by! It's nice to be able to come back home and have your friends all there to hang out with, without the hectic life in the dorm. When one of our roommates went abroad for a semester, the landlord was super chill about letting us sublet her room. We also had lots of parking in the back, which made moving in really easy. I was looking for a place with a parking spot that wasn't too far from campus. The landlord showed me a bunch of different places, but I liked this one the best. Some people call this street a "party street," so I was worried, but it's not so bad. I actually like all the activity on the weekends, it makes the place really feel alive. And during the week, it's not obnoxiously loud or anything, so I can still focus on homework. Oh, the previous tenants had really trashed the place. But the landlord made me a deal and let me move in earlier than normal, provided I was willing to wait for repairs for a few weeks because of a backlog. It wasn't a big deal and moving early helped me avoid all the rush, so I thought it was worth it. She had it all fixed up again within a few weeks anyway, so bonus points for being accomodating. This apartment was very affordable and close enough to campus. We needed some maintenance done twice, but the landlord took care of it within a few days both times. We appreciated the extra furniture as well. I rented from fall 2014 through summer 2015.

Nice cozy apartment, with decent rent. Basement laundry is kind of annoying, especially in the winter, but I guess that's standard around here. The sidewalks were plowed fairly quickly, which was definitely noticeable because the neighbors weren't so lucky. Surprisingly quiet in the evenings, even though it's right next to campus. Never saw the landlord much, but she was nice enough when I moved in and when I renewed my lease, and I got my security deposit back pretty quickly. I rented from fall 2012 through spring 2015. ...

The building was old, and you could certainly tell, but the kitchen felt new and modern. The living rooms were really big, which made our place good for parties, along with the big yard out front. I kind of wish we had found this place the year before. Sometimes the ice out front would be slippery, but the sidewalks were still plowed regularly. When I complained about the ice, the landlord salted and then left us the bag so we could apply more salt later on if we wanted, rather than having to wait for her. I don't know if it's the age of the house, but heating was kind of expensive. On the other hand, it was nice and cool inside during the summers without ever needing AC, even when it was really hot outside. I rented from fall 2014 through summer 2015. ...

We lived here for two years and were definitely satisfied. Parking is provided for, but if you have friends or family visiting, they might have problems finding street parking. I appreciated the landlord's willingness to work around my schedule when it came to showing the apartment to future tenants during senior year. I rented from fall 2013 through summer 2015. ...

Landlord from hell! Apartment was filthy when we moved in, paint and floors were in a poor state. She was rude and behaved erratically. She does NOT respond to communications and on the rare occasion that she does, she changes her story, blames you and complains about how she is too busy and doesn't have time. She doesn't follow through on anything. Apartment repairs are never done. She doesn't respond in a timely fashion. It takes repeated attempts to receive a reply to communications. Or, she'll deny receiving emails , which she has already responded to. I've since met several other previous tenants who rented from her and they all share similar stories. Our apartment was well located but really not worth it. I'd rather have lived elsewhere because of the stress and time it took trying to communicate with her. Like everyone else we spoke to there were always hidden charges for things that you weren't responsible for. I rented from fall 2013 through spring 2014. ...

This is the most disorganized, unprofessional and rude landlord I have ever worked with. Hidden fees galore AND she does not operate using email or electronic money transfers. Rented in 2014. I rented from fall 10 through winter 11.

The worst landlord around. Incredibly hard to communicate with. Very short on the phone. She was shady and never explained things completely/thoroughly. The house was in poor condition when we moved in yet she still charged $60 for every bedroom for "repair" (literally all we used were command strips on the walls). So many hidden fees. Seriously, find any other landlord to rent from and you'll have a better experience. ...
