My experience at Avery Glen was a mix of good and bad. The positives include a familial atmosphere and close proximity to my college campus. The people, students, that lived in Avery Glen made the downsides seem minor. It was quiet for the most part, except for the train that passed by every so often. I enjoyed the rumbling after a few weeks. The staff was understanding and maintenance arrived quickly when problems arose. I had a cranky washing machine that liked to shut off randomly. The maintenance man was incredibly helpful and took the time to teach me what to do when it happened again. The downsides are vast. The gate to the complex broke down on a weekly basis. It was slow closing and opening so anyone could walk in without going through the pedestrian door and scanning their ID card. Safety-wise, there was one break-in that involved 4-5 cars. The windows were broken and valuables were stolen. After this incident, the poorly-lit part of the apartment complex parking spots was fitted with bright LED street lamps. Next, the air conditioning units are connected throughout the buildings. So if someone is smoking a cigarette or something else, everyone two floors down can smell it.
