The apartment buildings and surroundings are not taken care of, the paint is peeling off of the bricks and the grass is rarely mowed. When it rains or snow melts, you cannot use the steps to the 1016 complex due to the large puddle that forms, instead you must walk around the stairs, up a small hill in order to get to the main door. When maintenance is needed the landlord takes at least a week to address the issues, such as a broken dryer (which took weeks to fix) and entry-way light bulbs (that were out when he gave me a tour of the building, months prior to me asking). At one point the inside handle to the complex door broke off, allowing you to only leave through the emergency door. Before I moved into my apartment, the landlord did not check to make sure the former tenant had cleaned. It turns out the former tenant had not cleaned in a while, and the landlord had not cleaned a thing either, the countertops and floors were disgusting, there was still urine in front of the toilet, the carpet had clearly not been vacuumed in a while. Even though it is a "No-Smoking" apartment, it still smelled of smoke and the shades are all tinted and sticky with tar. The inside of the apartment gets very cold due to the large gaps under the doors (which also let rodents into my apartment) and (what I can only assume is poor insulation). There are crude repairs around the apartment, such as my front door, which the landlord specified had been kicked down previously, he claimed that he "fixed it", but all he did to fix the splintered door was put a new deadbolt and wrap around plate on it. Another less than quality repair is the large crack in the bottom of my tub that has been poorly sealed, and the sealant is coming off. ...
