If I could give them less than one star, I would. Under no circumstances should you rent from this company. When you visit a Southwood apartment, they will “forget” the key to the basement where the laundry units are located. This is because the basement is dirty, cluttered and generally terrifying. When you sign a lease, you will be subjected to second hand smoke that will blacken your lungs in minutes. They will say they will clean the apartment before you move in, and they won’t. You will move in and they will tell you not to use Soft Scrub on the tub. You won’t use Soft Scrub on the tub and after even just the first shower, the tub floor will start to peal. They will blame you for this and they will not return your full deposit. The problems in the bathroom will continue. You will notice a leak in your ceiling, which you will report. They will send a maintenance man on their timeframe, even though you only have one bathroom. The maintenance man will do nothing. The leak will continue and you will report it again. This time it will be after hours, so you will have to call an “emergency” line that will connect you to a national call center and someone who knows nothing about your apartment, nor does he or she care. They won’t send anyone at that time because they will say it’s not an emergency. They will eventually come on their timeframe to tell you that you need a plumber, and more days will pass. One morning, a foot-by-foot chunk of ceiling (cement, plaster, rocks, etc.) will collapse from your bathroom ceiling. It will happen at a time when you could be using it and you will certainly have things out in your bathroom that will get ruined. They will wait three days to patch the ceiling of your only bathroom. You will ask your landlord to be reimbursed for your things and inconvenience of not having a bathroom and having to take time off work to deal with the situation, and your landlord will ignore the request entirely. You will then call National Real Estate Management Corp. You will speak to someone who will have to ask someone higher up. This person will say they will call you back with an answer. They won’t. When you call them, they will be irritated and rude to you, and will not reimburse you. Needless to say, this, and more, was my roommate’s and my experience with Southwood Apartments and National Real Estate Management Corp. You will hold up your part of the lease: you will be good tenants, pay your rent on time and take care of the apartment. They will not hold up their part of the lease, however, which is to provide a safe, habitable apartment. They are negligent, rude, unsympathetic, unresponsive, and I want you to learn from our mistake of renting from them. ...
