This is an old building and it needs maintenance, but this company is cheap and their office staff SUCK.
Since I've moved in:
1) On my move-in day, there was damage to the ceiling from a leaking roof but the management never checked the roof to see
if repairs were needed.
2) A few weeks later the leak got increasingly worse and eventually the ceiling partially collapsed. It took more than a month to get the leak fixed properly.
3) My apartment was never cleaned before my move-in. Floors were diry, oven was dirty, there was mold on the windows, there was some kind of 'special sauce' in the kitchen cabinets...
4) Hot water stopped working for more than a week because of a plumbing error. A PLUMBING ERROR TOOK THEM MORE THAN ONE WEEK TO RESOLVE. Not believing that I didn't have hot water, the apartment management sent the 'Regional Manager' who was SO RUDE and SMUG that I told him to leave. I refuse to have him in my apartment EVER AGAIN.
5) It's raining and I have a new roof leak, which just started dripping tonight. Hence, I'm posting this review EVERYWHERE.
6) The woman at the main office is a total ditz. She shows no initiative. For instance, if I say, "The valve is broken" I expect that I will get a response that acknowledges the broken valve... Instead I got a response that said, "We'll fix the heat." OK. That's good. Please also READ MY EMAIL AND FIX THE VALVE...
7) At 1:00 AM several days after being told the heat in my apartment was 'fixed', just before going to bed, I tried to tighten the radiator valve in my bedroom and restrict the flow of hot water into my bedroom radiator. The valve BROKE and water started pouring out into my bedroom. I stayed up until 4:30 AM mopping up the water to try to protect the downstairs neighbors, but the management company could not drain the heat system, so the water kept coming. I TOLD THEM IT WAS BROKEN BUT THEY DIDN'T FIX IT!!!
8) Did I mention that the office staff is totally incompetent'
9) Office staff is clueless. Can't emphasize that enough.
10) I've never been late on my rent but, the late fee here is 10% of monthly rent. That's absurd.
11) People on the south side of our apartment complex get more off-street parking than people on the north side. They just do. Deal with it.
12) You are not allowed to pay your rent by check. You have to pay 'online' using a third company called 'Payment Service Network'. However, online rent payment doesn't work for me and I've contacted payment service network FOUR TIMES and I've contacter Harper House management FOUR TIMES and NOBODY RESPONDED TO ME!!
The maintenance technician does whatever he can. Got to give him credit because I think he is basically getting asked to do too much. However, the management of this company cares only about getting your $$$$. Please stay away.
I HATE THIS COMPANY! STAY AWAY.
