I moved into a two bedroom apartment originally. Immediately upon moving in I noticed a bed bug on the wall, having nowhere else to go I contacted the apartment as per my lease I had one week to do so or I'd be forced to pay the fumigating fees for bedbugs. Contacted them day one (caught the bug in a bag for reference), was told someone would come and fumigate. Took about a week for them to respond (how convenient) and send someone out, they fumigated the entire building and the problem was better for a bit until I continued experiences bug bites and the like (after the fumigation I washed all of my clothes which was already an added expense on my part) and contacted them again. They sent another guy for treatment again and the problem calmed down again. Two months in, as I had to wait the mandatory times in between treatments and all while constantly doing everything in my power to prevent the infestation from propagating (putting all of my clothes in trash bags, and regularly vacuuming and drying clothes after each treatment), finally the issue was resolved and I never had to think about it again, or so I thought. Come a year later when my lease ended and I wanted to downsize to a single bed apartment in the same complex (was on reflections I believe, downsizing to court) they tried to pull some stunt where they miraculously wanted to charge me for the pest fee. I argued and eventually got my way, but needless to say I didn't get my deposit due to "repair fees" for some other apparent damages. Not great here. ...
