1/2 You couldn’t pay me to live here again. Short story: I became extremely sick while living in the apartment (I suspect mold and will tell you why below) and the management is about the worst I’ve ever seen! Long story: My husband and I were managing a student housing apartment complex (so we have a clue as to what to expect and what are reasonable expectations from management) on the other side of the state and got other employment in Provo in the beginning of the summer so we needed to move quickly. We were looking for something temporary because our goal was to buy. Moon said they had availability that was a year lease but we could sell the lease before then. When they sent us the lease it was apparent that it was only for a few months and then they told us we were taking over someone else’s lease. The most concerning part of this is that they required close to $1800 as a deposit when the lease we were signing was only for about 3 months. When I asked them about this they said it was because they thought we would renew the lease in August, I told them that we weren’t sure yet but probably wouldn’t be. A little while later when I called them to ask how soon in advance I needed to let them know whether or not we were renewing they told me they’d already sold it out from under us, without letting us know or anything because they thought I’d told them on the phone that we wouldn’t be renewing. Apparently they don’t need that type of thing in writing which most places do. We were desperate so we signed the lease and paid the outrageous deposit despite a lot of other concerns we had after reading through the lease. One example was their policy on mold was very concerning and they were extremely unspecific on what would be deducted from the deposit. It mentioned automatic deductions for different things but did not give an amount, this is extremely scary because that means they could come back and say that the automatic deductions are 100% of your deposit. Having been an apartment manager I always read through the entire lease before signing (so should everyone!) When we went to move in it took me over three hours to get ahold of someone to give us the code to get in despite the fact that I’d informed them the day and time that I would be there. And it being a weekday, their office hours are a joke! The apartment was disgusting, not because the tenants before us didn’t clean but just because the state of overall upkeep. The carpet was DISGUSTING and almost totally worn through in places and the walls were cracking the blinds were broken and the smell was horrible! I’m convinced that management did not even do a walk through of the apartment before we moved in because after a few weeks of living there I called to ask about a mail key because we never received one, they told us that it was supposed to be left in the apartment with the pool key. I told her that nothing had been left in the apartment and asked if they had copies in the office that we could pick up, they said no and that they’d have to get them from the old tenants (after being a manager I thought that was really weird.) When I asked about a timeline I could expect to get a key she got pretty catty and asked if I was waiting for a check from the government or something that I couldn’t wait for. She was rude and just pretty inappropriate, they ended up finding an extra key in the office and giving it to us. I was in my first trimester pregnant while living here. Before we moved in I was sick but just pretty typical, after we moved in it got so much worse. I couldn’t hold down food or water. I think it was the apartment because when I’d go stay somewhere else for a while I would go back to feeling like I did before. As soon as we would get back to the apartment I was extremely sick again. I suspect mold because once I was taking a bath and the downstairs texted us saying they had water coming from their ceiling in the bathroom under ours. They said it had happened multiple times before! And unresolved leak with water sitting can lead to mold!! ...

My husband and I lived in the B building for almost 2 years, and our experience was… acceptable. I think vision real estate bit off more than they could chew when they took on this property. The location is fantastic and the price is almost fair for what you’re getting, a rarity in Provo. :) The maintenance workers were very friendly when they actually came (which was frequent, due to the age of the building, but still not frequent enough) and the pool was nice for the grand total of about 2 weeks that it was open before it turned green. They lost our renters insurance info when they switched systems, and right now we’re struggling to get a hold of them since we moved out almost a month ago and they’re still trying to charge us rent. Still no sign of our inordinately high deposit… ...

Moon Apartments is a great place to look for cheap housing! It is reasonably priced, and its fairly nice and clean (especially since they remodeled all the floors in their complex)! Don't judge it too harshly by its pool (which has struggled to stay clean), because everything else is in tip-top shape! Management is pretty good about having open communication, and they respond to maintenance requests quickly! ...

Great place! I'm still here after three semesters! Life is dandy because I take care of business. Those that write negative reviews didn't take care of themselves as much as they should have. Management is relatively new but she is doing an awesome job thusfar. She sends out reminders about cleaning checks at least a week in advance, which is something I always appreciated. (Side note, it astounds me that people complain about having failed cleaning checks with such advanced notice! Even with busy schedules, a little cleaning here and there makes quick progress!) I've only submitted one maintenance request but he came by within the next few hours and took care of it! Can't beat location though. I'm at the south end of campus within 5 minutes. The 5th Ward is the BEST YSA ward EVER!!! I've made so many solid friends and role models here. If I had one complaint it would be the laundry facilities. It sometimes eats quarters but management will always refund us, which is great. There's a few washers and dryers for the entire complex, but I've noticed that it is easy to take care of laundry in the morning. Also it can be really annoying when people leave their laundry in the dryers. So in essence I've had a fantastic time here because I've made it that way. I chose to clean up after myself, rather than waiting for the morning of cleaning checks to get stuff done. I chose to pick up my laundry so that others can get theirs done. Do what you're supposed to and you'll be a golden tenant! I rented from winter 2016 through winter 2017. ...

The only thing good about this apartment is the location. Other than that they are old, small, and way over priced. My room had only one desk for two people. Our dishwasher was broken for 3 months and leaked water onto the floor, everything looks 30+ years old, and they keep half of the 500 dollar deposit ($250) no matter what. why on earth would they need 1000 dollars from each apartment! The managers arent the best, the mantinence guy was pretty helpful. THE PRICE IS GOING UP!!! NOT WORTH IT I rented from fall 10 through winter 11. ...

This is a great college apartment. The location is fantastic-I can be on the south end of campus within 5 minutes of closing the apartment door. And the staff really is terrific. We've had minimal maintenance issues, but when they've come up, maintenance has been prompt and efficient. I love the ward, and the facilities are in good condition. Overall, I've had a great experience in this apartment complex and I'd recommend it to anybody who's looking for a college apartment with great management, a middle-range price, and an awesome location! ...

Moon Apartments has been the perfect place for me and my husband to live after getting married. The apartments are nicely furnished and we didn't have to worry about buying all new things as we were moving in. The price is reasonable for a 2 bedroom apartment, a little more expensive because of the location. We really like having flat rate utilities, though, so we don't have to worry about it month to month budgeting. The price difference is worth it to us because my husband is still in school and Moon is only a couple blocks from campus. It is so nice to be able to walk there and not have to worry about the parking. We really like the ward that we are in and have been so happy with the neighbors that we have as well. The landlord and manager are both very helpful and reasonable. The one maintenance issue that we had got resolved within 48 hours and it was just a cabinet door coming loose. There is plenty of parking spots for tenants and we have never had a problem with anyone taking our spot. We haven't ever had problems with internet, laundry services, noisy neighbors or anything. It has been a perfect, spacious first apartment for us and we're looking forward to using the pool this summer! ...

This has been an incredible experience for us. The apartment was very clean and well-kept when we first moved in. It's very roomy and spacious, and even in the third floor we have great natural lighting. Management is great to work with, always positive and extremely responsive to any maintenance requests we've had. While the internet has had its moments, it's been good for the most part. Great place to live, awesome people and atmosphere for a married couple. We'd recommend it to anyone. ...

I really liked living here, the apartment was roomy and pretty nice for the most part. There was some mold in the bathroom and our toilet had some trouble flushing but neither were a huge issue. Plenty of storage space in the apartment. The landlord was new that year and initially she didn't seem great (cleaning checks were pretty intense and she seemed really nit-picky about other things too) but over the year she eased up a lot. She was always very prompt to help us out with problems when we went to her and wasn't ever rude about it. The internet throughout the year could be spotty but worked well enough. Be sure to get a parking pass early to ensure you have a spot. I rented August 2012-April 2013 ...

be careful the sneak into the contract to keep half of your deposit no matter how much you clean the place up when you leave. (250 nr125). Very sneaky and who needs almost $700 to clean the place if nothing is damaged and it is clean. I rented from fall 11 through fall 11. ...

I had a great experience living here at Moon Apartments. I lived here with all of my best friends in the Moon House and it was a blast. Our ward was social and always had activities going one. The manager was really friendly and was always willing to help out when we needed something. Maintenance was fixed quickly. The best part is the location. Walking to class took me no longer than 10 mins. I would recommend Moon Apartments to any of my friends! I rented from fall 10 through winter 11. ...

I have had a great experience at Moon Apartments! The apartments are clean, and you can see management out working on the grounds all the time. This is the fastest maintenance I've ever had too. You report a problem and within the day or the next day it is taken care of. It really is a beautiful and well-kept place to live! Management works really well to help you with any problems you may be having. For example, I didn't get a new tag on my bike, so it got cut off (after a warning email that I didn't respond to). The managers just spent almost an hour with me to help me find my bike, when it was my own fault it was gone in the first place. That isn't even the first time they've worked with me on problems before! They are very patient and available, which is something I feel like other apartment complexes lack. I've lived here for a full year and am going to live here another year. Why go anywhere else when I've been treated and taken care of so well? ...

This place is pretty disgusting. Don't live here if you have any other options. There are tons of ants in the living room, the kitchen, and the bathroom, and when I said something about it the owners simply said, "just don't feed the ants," and that was the extent of their help. The ceilings have mold, the dishwasher leaks, the bathroom floods, the carpets are old and dirty, the shower head is not meant for someone over five feet tall, plus the water pressure is HORRENDOUS and the hot water lasts literally five minutes. My apartment is not the only one with these problems. Several tenants have had flooded bathrooms and bug problems. The only thing good about this place is the close proximity to campus, but it is pretty much a rat hole. It is way overpriced for being so old and trashy, and the prices are increasing starting in the fall. Stay far away from Moon Apartments. I rented from spring 11 through fall 11. ...

My ward included Monticello apartments and it was the best ward I have been in at BYU. Pros: Great location, good price, plenty of storage space in the kitchen and bedrooms Cons: Small living room and kitchen Bad Experience: There was a problem with the sewer line and the sewage backed up into our apartment. Our bathroom and some of the carpet was soaked in gross water. However, this problem was not the fault of Moon Apartments and could have happened anywhere. The landlord had our apartment cleaned and some of the carpet replaced, so they handled this situation well. However, our neighbors bedbug problem was poorly handled. The Moon has been an alright place to live. They put in new couches and carpet as part of their "renovations", which is nice, just don't expect new appliances and stuff. There are still the same old sinks, countertops, facets, and showers that I'm sure have been here forever. The couches attract pretty much everything, so being "new" doesn't really mean a whole lot to me. The apartments are pretty small, and seem to carry every scent that you bring in it. If you decide to cook something one day, you'll be smelling it for the next couple of days. You can't really open a window in the winter, so I'd definitely recommend bringing an air freshener with you. A couple of years ago I lived here and left a comment strongly recommending this place. That was when the rent was a little more reasonable. They've raised the rent every year, and they're doing it again next Fall. Its going to be $300 a month, including utilities. $300 may not sound that bad, but you can definitely find a better place to live for $300 a month. The only real thing the moon has going for them is their location. Their apartments are just too small and old to charge $300 a month. One thing you should know: some of the buildings have a very bad ant problem. I know the "C" building has that problem for sure. Management sprays, but that will only last like a week, and then they're back again. The ants are too infested in the building. You can help minimize the ant problem by being super clean, but that won't get rid of them. Its pretty social here at times, especially in the summer. So that is good. However, it takes a while for the pool to open in the summer. Since the pool isn't heated, you have to wait for the sun to warm it for about a month into the summer before they open it. Even then, the pool isn't that warm. Just warm enough. The pool filter breaks pretty regularly, so the pool will turn green and then you won't want to swim in it. Then before you know it, the pool is closed again. They are pretty good about shoveling the walks in the winter. Its really nice to be able to drive into a shoveled driveway after work, especially after it snows a lot. Overall, the moon is alright. There are lots of things they can do to improve, however. I'm just trying to give my honest opinion. I rented from winter '09 through fall '09. ...

So the day I moved into the place I noticed it had ants. After talking with the management about it like 2 days later the lady told me that I should have kept my kitchen cleaner and said that is why we have ants. HELLO???? I don't think ants move into places THAT FAST!! After our continued complaints to the management (management is supposed to manage right???) they came by with the owners. The owner told us that we should have let them know about this a long time ago. They said that ant problem was bad. I said I had told the management lady right after I moved in. The lady said, "I just thought you had a NORMAL AMOUNT OF ANTS". (No joke that is what she really said.) I asked her what a "normal amount of ants" was. She went on saying how she always saw a couple ants everywhere she lived. HMMMM, WHERE IN THE WORLD DID THEY FIND THIS LADY FROM AND WHY IS SHE THE MANAGER?? Local management is great, the owner is a psycho. The owner was always rude during our cleaning checks. It had a decent social life in the summer, the pool was great and we would have pool parties at night with some of the guys from the other apartments. The location is excellent, the price is a little much for the quality offered (this is Provo), and I heard that the price is going up. Overall it was a decent place to live, I would recommend it.
