I am floored by the lack of widely used space and cheap materials used for heritage halls.you can't use command hooks because the paint and wall materials are so cheap it tears the walls up. The stove is situated so the lazy Susan in the corner can't really be used for the bigger gongs like cereal it was intended. There is not enough cabinet space for 6 girls to put there food in the kitchen unless they don't put dishes there too. The dishwasher and fridge are undersized for 6 students. There is a huge space in the entrance that is completely wasted unless you want to buy an expensive storage unit. There is a single 12 shelf per girl in the bathroom for storage. No under the sink storage or drawers. In this case, the designers and administrators confused frugal for flat out cheap. I rented from fall 2018 through fall 2018. ...

Last year, as an incoming freshman at BYU, I worried about finding housing that was both cheap and good quality. I have found that Heritage Halls is an amazing place to live, and would recommend it to any incoming Freshman. It is a walking distance from campus, a 20 minute walk at most if you are going from the furthest building to the south end of campus and are a slow walker. Rent is reasonable for on campus housing with the amount of room in an apartment. The living room and kitchen are spacious, as well as the bedroom area. Having three sinks to share between 6 girls works out perfectly. Though desks are provided, if you need a change of scenery there is an activity room down the hall that you can do homework in. The parking situation can be frustrating at times, but if you don't need to use your car often you can easily grow accustomed to the walk to the parking lot. Should you rent this apartment? Be warned- parking here is a total nightmare. The parking lot is literally a mile away from the complex. There's also not much of a social life at Heritage. The RAs are overzealous and make it feel like your being babysat. Do yourself a favor and live off campus. I rented from fall 2017 through winter 2018. ...

I wish I never lived in Heritage. If you want a place where you're treated like a child, this is the place for you. If you want to be an independent adult who doesn't need an RA telling your significant other to leave at 11:55pm or tell you to deep clean your dorm On your worst week of mid terms, threatening to fine you if it's not clean enough, then don't live here. Also, when you do the math, what you pay to live at Heritage is the same price you would pay at the Village for a private room. I rented from fall 2017 through winter 2018. ...

I loved living at Heritage. It is convenient and most buildings are pretty new. The biggest downside is the lack of parking (unless you're there for spring/summer term) and the fact that the rent begins 2 months before you start living there, so it isn't as good a deal as it seems. I have enjoyed the wards and social life, although some have a disparity between levels of women to men. I've had a fantastic time living there, and wouldn't mind living there again. It is perfect for Freshman, but the 19 and older community is growing well. I rented from fall 2016 through fall 2018. ...

The ONE thing about Heritage Halls that bothered me was the fact that there's no parking close by. It makes it must more annoying to try and have a car. Quality was great and it's so close to campus you can leave just 10 or 15 minutes before class STARTS. Parking availability and convenience is lacking. Great housing for freshmen. Fun housing events and wards, but as an upperclassmen who's already done their college exploring, I would suggest a different social environment. This is also for the New Heritage since the old is pretty much non-existent. I loved living here and thought everything was really good EXCEPT the parking. It is literally the worst parking you can have on campus and the lot they give us is a 20 minute walk away. So they are perfect if you don't have a car and nearly perfect if you do. this is a review for NEW HERITAGE the newest year I could select was '11, but I began living here in 2013. I live currently in building 29 on the third floor. The north side of this building (and building 30 for males) has the best view you will find of any other building on campus. They are brand spanking new, all appliances are good and everything is still new and clean and stuff. Granite counter tops, wifi provided. there is NOWHERE to park your car if you live here. I've gotten like 5 tickets now for every futile attempt I have made to park my car. Overall I love it. The ward is good, the people are really down-to-earth, the location can't be beat. *windows do not open, you cannot use your own router, and there is no TV provided. I love Heritage Halls! I lived there as a freshman from Fall '11 to Winter '12. You pay a little more than some off campus housing, but there are no utility charges and the distance to campus is INCREDIBLE. Super social and fun. I love this place.

I couldn't find any posts on New Heritage Halls, so I thought I would take the liberty to help someone out by posting one here. To be clear, these are the NEW buildings they built in 2011 (and are still building right now) that will eventually replace the OLD Heritage Halls. Alright, so you might have seen a few comments talking about these buildings already. Some person called them the "great and spacious buildings", which is pretty true. They are pretty spacious. And let me tell you-- you won't have much of an issue with space. There are two storage closets, clothes closets, two dressers that fit under the bed for each person, a desk with four large drawers, and additional space under the bed if you so desire. I thought it would be an issue, especially since I drove out with my entire car filled to the brim with stuff, but I got everything moved in with space to spare. Bringing a couple of plastic tubs wouldn't be a bad idea though if you want to keep something in the closet space (which doesn't have a door by the way-- not that it matters, but I was a bit surprised to find out). Anyway, what this dorm has is quality. Because they are so new, they have been designed very well, they are spacious, shiny, clean, and have everything you could ever need. The basic layout is a kitchen (with enough cupboards to comfortably fit all six roommate's stuff inside), a living room that comes with two couches and a dining table, an entry hall, three pretty large bedrooms for two girls each, two decently large bathrooms with showers and sinks, and a vanity in between for people to get ready in the mornings without hogging up bathrooms. A genius invention. And that's not including the storage closet, which we use for stuffing all our moving-in boxes, and the shelved closet, which has several large, large shelves that can fit pretty much anything. Also to those who were wondering, the kitchen comes equipped with a refrigerator, stove/oven unit, dishwasher, sink, broom/dustpan, an ironing board, and basic cleaning supplies. You DO have to get your own pots, pans, and silverware, however. Oh, and let me just mention that the desks come with a bulletin board and a built-in fluorescent light with an additional electrical outlet. So you don't really need a desk lamp, unless if you really like light. The dorm rules regarding members of the opposite sex are as follows: they cannot be in your dorm past 11:00 on weekdays, 12:00 on weekends. They can be in the BUILDING an hour past, however, and there is an awesome activity room on each floor that is excellent for that kind of thing. However, no matter what, they are not ever allowed behind the "chastity door", or the door that leads into the bedroom hallway. Random facts about the buildings that you should know: it is about a ten minute walk from the heart of campus (especially since they finished a new walkway that cuts time down by a TON), there is barely any parking so if you're bringing a car beware that you'll never want to move your car, and all the New Heritage Halls have WIFI, which I don't think the other buildings have. Also, the pet policy is that you can't have anything (even fish), but I keep a pet snail I found outside. I named it Jelly. It's freaking adorable. But not like that is important. :P As far as what's close by, the Creamery Outlet is a 30 second walk from my building (Building 28) but maybe a minute walk for further buildings. I know that one building they're in the process of building right now is literally next to the main Creamery. Both are good for basic grocery shopping, but the main Creamery has a bit of produce, which the outlet lacks. The outlet does carry, however, basic hygenic materials, cereals, canned foods, cake mix, milk, eggs, cheese, disposable stuff, detergent, and all kinds of stuff like that. So quick shopping isn't an issue. Also, the Life Science Museum is right next to it, as well as the Bell Tower. A lot of people are concerned about social life when picking dorms. I'm the more reserved type person, so I don't get up and go party or whatever, but the people in New Heritage generally seem decent to me. They don't seem as obnoxious as some of the other people comment about their dorms. But they ARE indeed mostly freshman (with some upperclassmen), so if that scares you, beware. But that's kind of how it is in all on-campus dorms. It isn't that noisy at all though. I personally find the New Heritage Halls to be a ton nicer than the other dorms, especially if you land 5 other great roommates like I did. We have such a fun time. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I especially love that each building has a piano practice room on floor one. There is a baby grand inside, and it's usually empty during the day. Also, there's a nice playing field right outside the building, which is great if you like playing frisbee or kissing rugby or something like that. I also forgot to mention that the activity room on each floor has an HD Screen TV in it that a lot of people will watch football games on while eating chips and dip and such, so if the social life is a bonus for you, New Heritage is great because you can either choose to be really social and outgoing, or you can choose to be more reserved. Either way, New Heritage accommodates for your personal habits. I never hear anyone complain that it's boring around here, and I've never heard anyone complain that it's too noisy around here. Get into New Heritage if you can. I think that Old Heritage isn't even an option after this year or next year, actually. If the rumors I've heard are true, they're going to tear down Old Heritage and replace it with more New Heritage. And New Heritage is a ton cheaper than Helaman, which makes you purchase the most expensive meal plan. Anyway, those are my thoughts on it. I thought someone should talk about New Heritage, since a good review of it doesn't seem to exist anywhere. Happy applying for college! :D PS, the date is 10/22/12. (Note - I actually rented from Fall 2011 to Winter 2012. The date hadn't extended to 2012 yet when I wrote the review...) Yes, I stayed in the Old Heritage, watching them tear down the buildings around me one by one to replace them with "Great and Spacious buildings" (that supposedly looked like hotels on the inside). But despite the fact that this place was old, it was in good condition. Having traveled to other apartments to look for a place next year, I can say that even old Heritage doesn't have that rotting cat-food smell that you get in other old apartments. My roommates were great and the ward was good. My RA was very enthusiastic and nice. There weren't always parking spots (not a problem for me because I didn't have a car) and the showers got clogged easily, but maintainence always showed up fairly quickly to fix the showers. Almost everything was in walking distance - the BYU Creamery for most groceries, the temple, and campus (of course) were all nearby. I really enjoyed it. I have loved living in Heritage! Everyone is really nice, and I didn't realize until I started looking for housing for next year how spacious our Heritage dorm is. Even with six people, it's not too crowded; having two showers is really helpful. We've had to call maintenance a couple of times for burnt out lightbulbs & a broken chair & freezer door, and they responded really quickly--from within an hour to no later than the next day. Being an out-of-stater, I love having extra storage in the basement (my roommate and I kept our bikes there in the winter to keep from rusting, and even with boxes and skis and stuff there's still lots of leftover room), and also in my closet (our room has a walk-in closet, which I would definitely recommend--it's wonderful!). It's been so great living here, even with construction for the new Heritage buildings going on outside my window all year (we all got used to it, it's no matter at all), and it was really exciting when they broke a water main right before Thanksgiving and flooded all of Heritage! The location is so great--on campus in less than 5 minutes (& I lived in the farthest part of Heritage), the Creamery right next door (awesome prices for milk, bananas, bread, some produce (that's about all I get anyway); I bike down to Buy-Low or Macey's if I need anything else), the temple is just a 10-15 minute walk, & I can walk to work at the MTC in 10 minutes! I have not met ANYONE unpleasant during my whole time at Heritage: it has been WONDERFUL!!! Heritage RHA also has the occasional dance/activity (they can get really cool), and everyone loves you! (I say that even as a pretty quiet, laid-back person.) I would recommend Heritage to any incoming freshman (if you're older, you'll probably want to find a place more fit for your age)- you get to cook, you're the closest to campus, you don't have to pay for a meal plan, you have the best & biggest on-campus housing option, the wards and stake are ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!, and you also live close to others taking the same bundle of classes as you! It has been absolutely amazing, and I would stay and RA except that RAs can't take night classes and I want to take orchestra, which is held at night. Best of luck, and I hope you get into Heritage and enjoy it as much I have! P.S. The new buildings are going to be SO beautiful, and I'm sure you'll enjoy them if you can afford them! This was a great place to live as a freshman. Very social, easy to get to know other people. It is overpriced for what you get, but then what freshman housing isn't? It's the best place to live as a freshman since DT is gone; Wyview is far to walk and Helaman doesn't have a kitchen. It is a good experience as a freshman to have your own kitchen so you can learn to cook, and Heritage provides that. Heritage Halls is the perfect place for incoming freshmen to live. I lived in Whitney Hall and it was great because we were one of the only wards that had an even girl:guy ratio. The kitchen is really small, so if you can, try and coordinate with your roommates before you move in so that you don't bring as many dishes. There are certain rooms that have more kitchen/living space, but those are not the ones that are in the middle section of the building. There is plenty of storage space. There are cages with combination locks in the basement for extra storage. Very close to campus. It's great for freshman year, but after that you're ready for a change. If you are an incoming freshman deciding between dorms, I would not recommend Heritage Halls. The buildings themselves are very old and depressing with cinder block walls, dark, old carpet/linoleum, fluorescent lights, and small windows. It kind of feels like a prison. And one bathroom, a tiny kitchen, and no living room for six people is not a good setup. The location is good, and the social aspect is good as well, but I wish I knew what it was like before I signed up for it. After visiting a friend in Wyview I wish I lived there. A great place for freshmen to live, very social and fun atmosphere of almost all incoming freshmen. Parking is HORRENDOUS- If you have a car and intend to use it, consider another place! There is parking, sometimes, but this place wasn't designed for students with cars. If you come home after around 9 or 10 pm, chances are you won't find a spot for the night. You can park at a church to the north, or somewhere else... It basically just bad. But I loved my roommates, ward, and RA; I had a great experience overall! I lived in Penrose in Fall 2010. (the year it flooded and made the front page news- crazy stuff.) ...

I thought living in Heritage was a very good experience. I wouldn't live here any other year besides my freshman year, but for freshmen I think it is a great way to go. EXTREMELY close to campus. It literally takes me less than 5 minutes and I'm in the middle of campus. It is very close the the Creamery on 9th and it is a grocery store which surprisingly will have most of the things you will need. The ward is fun. Everyone is very active and we had activities monthly. Maintenece responds quickly. We only had to call a few times for little things like light bulbs and they usually come that same day. (And P.S. they do NOT require you to buy a meal plan anymore. I didn't this year and I actually found that the best because the smallest meal plan required you to spend $30 a week and most people were not able to spend that much a week and would end up just going at the end of the week and buying junk food with the extra money) Overall a good experience and I DEFINATELY recommend it for freshmen!
